Digestion and Detox: A fresh start for 2020


The end of the year is an important time to reflect on the past 12 months and look ahead to a healthy and successful 2020. This is a perfect opportunity to reboot our system, rest our digestion and revitalise the body for the year ahead. Once the celebrations are all done try this New Year kick start plan.

1. Reduce your liver loaders

  • Limit alcohol, coffee & refined sugar intake

  • Reduce trans fats

  • Reduce gluten, added sugars and dairy foods for a few weeks

  • Reduce environmental toxins and chemical load (including detergents, moisturisers, pollutants etc)

2. Aid your digestion

  • Add some apple cider vinegar & water or lemon water before meals

  • Natural probiotic fermented foods – sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, kombucha

  • A Probiotic supplement can help balance the digestive system

  • Include some herbs/spices - ginger, cinnamon, mint, cucumber, lemon & lime

3. Chew your food slowly

  • Put your fork down between bites

  • 20-30 chews per mouthful

  • No tv, iPad, phone or distractions

4. Drink plenty of water

  • Aim to drink 2-3 litres water per day

  • Drink between meals (20 minutes each side)

  • Choose filtered tap water or mineral water

  • Avoid soda’s, fruit juices and limit coffee

5. Antioxidants – Eat a rainbow!

  • Choose real foods

  • Bright coloured foods are rich in antioxidants

  • Aim for 7-9 serves veggies/fruit per day
